In the last week of school before the Christmas holiday, over 100 of our students were able to immerse themselves in the topic of Europe. For many years, the European project has been an integral part of Salem's democracy education in grade 10 for both the German and English systems. During the second half term, pupils deal with the institutions of the EU in social studies lessons. In addition, in the German system, writing political speeches under the motto “Europe? But for sure!” was practised.

The highlight is a visit to the European Parliament in Strasbourg and participation in a European simulation game, which has been led by an external institute for many years. In this game, the students slip into the role of members of parliament, heads of state and other participants in the political process and simulate the possible accession of new member states. They practise debating and negotiating democratic decision-making processes. This enables them to transfer this knowledge to the existing bodies in Salem and to the Student Council and Parliament. A great experience for everyone involved!
