The school and boarding community of Schule Schloss Salem consists of around 250 staff members and approximately 600 students. Around half the staff are teachers who live and work with our students both in the boarding school, i.e. on the wings, and also in lessons, in the services, guilds and clubs. All others work in the areas of housekeeping, caretaking and administration. This includes our kitchen team, our maintenance staff and our cleaning staff, as well as the areas of accounting, human resources, IT, admissions, international office, marketing and fundraising.

Chemistry / Biology Teacher (m/f/d)

Schule Schloss Salem gGmbH is looking for a qualified and experienced Chemistry/Biology (m/f/d) for 1 September 2024. This can be a part-time post, or up to full-time in conjunction with another of the subjects we offer and/or with boarding duties.

We are looking for a teacher who

  • enjoys working as a role model in a culturally diverse community
  • enjoys supporting young people as they develop as critical, independent thinkers

We require you to

  • have a relevant, recognized teaching qualification for teaching ChemistryBiology in grades 8-12
  • have experience teaching this subject in the IB MYP / Diploma Programme or in a comparable international education system
  • be able to teach lessons competently in the English language, in grades 8-10 as well as in the IB Diploma Programme
  • be engaged with our students in the boarding school and outside the classroom, for example by leading a club, relevant trips, class trips, covering evening/weekend duties etc.
  • (ideally) be able to teach in the German language as well as in English
  • have experience tutoring/mentoring young people, possibly with experience in boarding duties

House Tutor (m/f/d) (residential position)

For 1 September 2024 we are seeking a House Tutor (m/f/d) to live and work in a boarding house, caring for a wing of boys or girls. 

We are looking for

  • People who enjoy working with children/young people from different cultures and are aware of their own role model function,
  • People who enjoy accompanying young students on their way to becoming a critically thinking personality and
  • People who enjoy living and working in the community of the boarding school. 

You should offer

  • a relevant (social) pedagogical qualification,
  • Experience in working with young people and the flexibility and willingness to participate in a lively community,
  • familiarity with reform pedagogical theory and a willingness to put it into practice in everyday life with children and young people,
  • Joy in working with young people from different cultural backgrounds and
  • the willingness to accompany various student activities.

International Baccalaureate (IB) Administrative Assistant (f/m/d)

Schule Schloss Salem gGmbH is seeking part-time (60%) International Baccalaureate (IB) Administrative Assistant (f/m/d) to start as soon as possible. 

The IB Diploma Programme at Schule Schloss Salem has been growing for thirty years. It unites the pedagogical ethos of Salem with the challenging, yet holistic ethos of the International Baccalaureate. The IB Administrative Assistant is an integral member of the IB Team, sharing the enjoyment of working with a uniquely international and diverse student body and faculty.

What you do

  • Be part of the administrative team and work closely with IB Coordination and the School Management Team
  • Handle core aspects of IB administration such as student registration, accounts, results processing, transcript and recognition documentation and general correspondence
  • Be a key member of IB Coordination in monitoring IBIS and MyIB systems, examination planning and implementation
  • Have a key role in the organization of in-school revision and IB workshops for faculty members

What you bring

  • Experience of working in a team and a positive team spirit
  • Administrative and clerical experience
  • Fluent spoken and written English at native, academic or certified translator level
  • Digital fluency with a variety of word- and data-processing programmes/apps and complex data platforms (IBIS, ManageBac and others)

This means that you become an integrated member of our school community from day one, assisting in the boarding school with evening and weekend tasks as required, or possibly living on campus as a resident Mentor / House Tutor.
