Sports and Outdoor

After a hearty breakfast and before it gets too hot, the Kids Camp participants spend every day from 8.15 am to 10.30 am taking part in sports and exploring the woods. Group sizes range from 8 to 14 children.

Bushcraft

Out in the surrounding woods and in the great outdoors, the Bushcraft programme teaches you how to find your way around the natural world. Wood carving, campfires and outdoor adventures are all part of your daily routine during this afternoon activity.

Hockey

Our traditional sport: we’d love for you to pick up a stick here, whether on the grass or in the hall! With us, you can improve your playing skills or discover this exciting, fast-paced and technically challenging sport for yourself.

Swimming

In the school’s own indoor swimming pool – and, if you’re able, in nearby bodies of water too – we’ll spend two weeks working on your swimming technique and aim to improve it together with you.

Team Sports

Do you enjoy being active and can’t resist throwing, kicking or playing with a ball whenever you see one? Do you love team sports and games, and enjoy taking part in outdoor games such as Cops and Robbers or Capture the Flag? Then Team Sports is the perfect choice for you. Over the course of two weeks, you’ll try out different sports, improve your technique and teamwork, and have loads of fun.

Learning Groups

The study groups take place every morning for two hours. Each group consists of 7–12 children.

Below, we have listed all the study groups available to choose from. You can enter your child’s preferences below.

Your first and second choices must be different!

Basic English

If English isn’t your first language and you’ve already had at least a year’s English lessons at school, then this course is just right for you. Here, you’ll deepen your language skills, expand your vocabulary and start writing your first short texts in English.

German

If you enjoy reading stories and writing essays, and would like to improve your spelling and grammar a little at the same time, then this course is just right for you.

DaF (German as a foreign Language) for beginners without previous knowledge

If you have no previous experience of the German language, we recommend you attend this course. You’ll learn how to introduce yourself, have simple everyday conversations and write your first short texts in German.

DaF (German as a foreign Language) for advanced learners

You’ve already learnt a bit of German at school or with your family and would now like to build on your knowledge. Here, you’ll learn to speak and write more effectively, practise your grammar and work on your listening comprehension.

History

Take a journey into the past: come and experience the Middle Ages first-hand at our old monastery. (Note: if enrolment numbers are low, the Kids Camp and Junior Camp courses may be combined).

Mathematics

Here, you’ll get to know mathematics in a different, practical way. Through a range of games and learning aids, you’ll be introduced to mathematical rules and principles.

Mini-Uni

As a young student, you’ll learn interesting facts here about the natural sciences and technology. Under the guidance of various experts, you’ll discover amazing phenomena through hands-on ‘lectures’.

Afternoon activities

As with the study groups, you will first find information on all the practical groups below, and you can then enter your child’s preferences.

Arts and Crafts

If you enjoy creative and artistic activities, you’ve come to the right place. Here, we paint, design, make crafts and work with a wide variety of materials, such as plaster, soapstone, oil paint and ink. Let Salem Castle and its beautiful surroundings inspire you artistically.

Circus

In just two weeks, you’ll learn some incredible skills here: acrobatics, balancing, devil sticks, diabolo, unicycling and juggling. You’ll be amazed at what you’re capable of!

Forest

Here you’ll discover the flora and fauna around Salem Castle. You’ll explore, experience and roam through the nearby woods: both on foot and under the microscope!

Music

Join our Kids Camp ensemble! Do you already play an instrument, or would you like to try a new one? Then you’ve come to the right place! Please tell us below which instrument you already play.

On Stage

Over the course of these two weeks, you’ll have the chance to get a taste of acting. You’ll take on a role in the play that will be performed on the final day. Curtain up and clear the stage!

Sailing

At the school’s own Spetzgarter harbour, you’ll learn the basics of sailing on ‘Optis’ (small dinghies). To take part, you must speak German fluently.

Good swimming skills in open water are absolutely essential! Sailing takes place whatever the weather.

Participants will be selected by drawing lots from the group of interested pupils.

Further Information

Airport transfer

We are happy to pick up and/or drop off your child at Friedrichshafen or Zurich airport for flights arriving or departing between 10:00 and 17:00. (Please note that we are NOT able to offer a transfer for accompanying adults).
For this service the following fees apply per child:
- Zurich: Single pick-up or drop-off €25, return €50
- Friedrichshafen: Single pick-up or drop-off €15, return €30

Middle Weekend

We will explore the surrounding area of Schloss Salem on the weekend. We will visit Affenberg (Monkey Mountain), enjoy a picnic lunch at our Upper School Campus, Schloss Spetzgart and go for a swim in nearby Lake Constance as well as enjoy spending a fun time with your new found friends during this exciting weekend.

Conditions of Acceptance

* Enrolment is only confirmed once the signed contract has been returned and the full participation fee has been paid.
* Each participant must have valid health, accident, and travel insurance coverage. We also recommend taking out travel cancellation insurance.
* We must be informed in advance of any special requirements or circumstances relating to participants (e.g. dietary needs, medical conditions, or medication).
* First-choice preferences of activities cannot be guaranteed.
* We reserve the right to modify or cancel activities due to adverse weather conditions, insufficient participant numbers, or other compelling reasons.
* The possession or consumption of alcohol, drugs, cigarettes, e-cigarettes, or other smoking/vaping products is strictly prohibited and will result in exclusion from the programme.
