Learning Groups (in the morning)

Morning Learning Groups are listed below. Please select your first and second choice. We do our best to allocate your first choice, but cannot always guarantee this.

English

The course is divided according to the language level of the individual participants.

German beginners

This course is for beginners without any knowledge of German.

German Advanced Level 1

This course offers a mix of grammar, cultural studies, conversation and vocabulary training.

German Advanced Level 2

This course is for students who have good speaking and listening skills but need to improve their reading comprehesnion and writing skills in German.

History at your Finger Tips

Travel back in time. Experience Schloss Salem and its surrounding area in the time of the Middle Ages, through theory and practice. A good knowledge of the German language is required to attend this group (Note: in case of low enrolment possible merging of Kids Camp & Junior Camp course).

Mathematics

Math classes in Junior Camp are all about finding fun in mathematics. We take a look at special numbers (such as prime numbers or square numbers) to improve number sense. We also explore where probability appears in everyday life and how it can help you make better decisions, and we apply geometric theorems to determine heights and distances. Good grades in regular math classes are not a requirement.

Natural Phenomena

Lessons emphasize practical exploratory exercises; investigate fire, make paper or experience forensic techniques.

Services

You will find information on Service activities below and can then submit two choices.

First Aid Service

You will learn how to safeguard the scene of an accident, treat an injured person and practice basic life support.

Fire Brigade

“Charge the hose line"! Hoses and other equipment will be your set of tools for your first attempts at extinguishing a fire.

Nautical Service

Students will receive an introduction to maritime rescue on Lake Constance, learn to tie simple knots and how to use a walkie-talkie. The service is available only to strong swimmers able to swim 250m in open water. Nautical Service cannot be combined with the afternoon activity "Sailing", i.e. either Nautical Service or Sailing can be chosen). For safety reasons, this service runs across the full two weeks, which means that students who take this service cannot take an arts and crafts (guild) activity.

THW (Technical Emergency Relief Service)

Students will learn to respond in case of a catastrophe.

Arts and Crafts

Information on the choices for Arts and Crafts is found below. Please submit three choices.

Carpentry

An opportunity to develop a feeling for wood as a natural material, working to create something both practical and beautiful.

Ceramics

You develop your own style by forming simple vessels and figurines out of clay.

Film-Workshop

As a member of a film team you will draft a film script and turn it into a movie.

Lathe-work

A piece of wood sits on the work-bench, uncarved and untreated. What can be created from it? A bowl, a cone? In the workshop this simple piece of wood will be held in a vice and, under the instruction of the master craftsman, can be turned into an useful household object or a work of art.

Painting

With a brush and an easel in the schloss and garden: get inspired by the forms and colours.

Photography

You will develop a good eye for photography and edit your pictures at the PC.

Precision Metalwork

Turning, Milling, Drilling - an insight into the world of metalwork.

Robotics

You will plan, build and programme a robot with lego bricks and make it move as you like.

Tailoring

Would you like to sew your own boxer shorts or skirt? Just choose a fabric and a pattern of your liking and off you go!

Activity Programme (in the afternoon)

Activities take place in the afternoons for three hours on a weekly rotation basis.
You will find information on all the services below and can then submit four choices.

Archery

Produce your own arrows and learn to hit the target with concentration and self-confidence.

Dancing

A dance will be created based on a theme chosen by the group. Dance styles such as Jazz, Hip Hop and contemporary dance will be explored to produce and perform the final choreography.

Field Hockey

Get inspired by Salem's traditional sport. Here you can learn the basic hockey techniques.

Junior-Camp-Band

Do you want to play or sing in a band? You can enter the Rock and Pop Scene with your own instrument or offer your vocal talent. A minimum of 2 years of instrumental lessons is required. All instruments are welcome.

Outdoor

A variety of activities await students in this outdoor sports programme. Strength and stamina are required while mastering the adventure rope-course, for mountain-biking through the landscape and kayaking on Lake Constance. These activities are interspersed with more relaxed swimming and beach volleyball sessions.

Sailing

From the Spetzgart harbour you will start sailing in small boats on Lake Constance and learn basic sailing skills (you must be able to swim at least 250 meters competently, Sailing cannot be combined with Nautical Service i.e. either Nautical Service or Sailing can be chosen).

Team sports

Beach volleyball, soccer, basketball and even water polo: enjoy doing sports together as a team player.

Tennis

The group is divided according to the competence levels of the individual participants.

Weekend

On Saturday we offer a variety of local excursions in the triangle of Germany, Switzerland and Austria. The Sunday we will spend together enjoying various activities in and around the castle.

Campus Galli

Excursion back in time: Campus Galli (www.campus-galli.de).

Canoe trip

Canoe trip on Lake Constance. Available only to strong swimmers able to swim 250m in open water.

Climbing a high ropes course

At the climbing park in Immenstadt, you'll learn tips and tricks during the climbing course – and then try out the various routes for yourself.

Cycling tour

Cycling tour along the shores of Lake Constance with refreshing swimming breaks.

Sailing trip

Sailing trip on Lake Constance. Available only to strong swimmers able to swim 250m in open water.

Summit tour

Hiking in the Allgäu region.

Technorama in Winterthur

Visit to the Technorama in Winterthur (www.technorama.ch) and the Rhine Falls in Schaffhausen (www.rheinfall.ch), Switzerland.

Zeppelin Museum

Visit to the Zeppelin Museum in Friedrichshafen (www.zeppelin-museum.de) and the Adventure Climbing Park in Immenstaad (www.api.abenteuerpark.com).

Conditions of Acceptance

* Enrolment will not be finalised until fees have been paid and the signed contract returned.
* The student must take out full medical and travel insurance.
* We must be informed about any special conditions for participants (diet, medical etc.).
* First choice of activities cannot be guaranteed.
* We reserve the right to cancel any activities or alter the venue of the programme as circumstances dictate (e.g. poor weather, lack of participants, guidelines of the health department etc.).
* Possession or consumption of alcohol, drugs, cigarettes, e-cigarettes or other smoking devices is strictly forbidden and will lead to expulsion.
