In Honour of Kurt Hahn - an Evening Full of Music and Inspiration
by Ella S., 10D3
Kurt Hahn: educational reformer, visionary, pedagogue and founder of Salem's schools. To mark the 50th anniversary of his death, a benefit concert was organised in Hamburg for the scholarship fund.

Dr Lars Watermann, former student and father of a current Salem student, and Dr Karen Jung, Chairwoman of the Kurt Hahn Foundation, organised this special evening for the benefit of the Kurt Hahn Foundation and its scholarship fund. They invited guests from near and far to the Anglo-German Club in Hamburg. One of the evening's special guests was Andrey Denisenko, a pianist born in Rostov-on-Don. He has lived in Hamburg with his family since 2017. He has already won several prizes at national and international competitions.

Andrey Denisenko delighted the guests with a breathtaking piano concert. Afterwards, the guests enjoyed an exquisite dinner, which provided the perfect culinary finale. Dr Karen Jung spoke about the work of the foundation and how it enables young and talented students to live and learn at Salem, regardless of their parents' income. Henrik Fass, General Director of Schule Schloss Salem, addressed his words to the donors and sponsors, the Friends of Salem, former students and parents. As head girl and scholarship holder, I also had the opportunity to take part in this special event. I took the opportunity to express my sincere thanks on behalf of all Salem scholarship holders and to give the guests an insight into our everyday life at Salem.

After dinner, the guests enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere, exchanged ideas and celebrated happy reunions. The collection of donations for the scholarship fund for Salem scholarship holders raised a five-figure sum - many thanks to everyone who took part. It was a wonderful, inspiring and enriching evening that all those present will remember for a long time to come.
