Reading Karaoke Show
On a Friday evening in May, a special event for grades 5 to 9 took place in the Schrote assembly hall at Schloss Salem: a reading karaoke. Although there were only a few participants, this did not detract from the atmosphere - on the contrary: the small group gave the event a particularly cosy and personal atmosphere.
The event was organised by Fabiane Luz, head librarian at Schule Schloss Salem. She had invited literary mediator Frank Sommer from Berlin, who charmingly and skilfully guided the audience through the event. It was the first time that a reading karaoke had taken place at Schule Schloss Salem. Fabiane Luz is fascinated by the concept: "This is a completely new way of teaching literature and promoting reading."
The focus was on reading together. Volunteer students were allowed to come on stage and read passages of text in small groups or in pairs, which were projected onto the screen. Mrs Luz had selected the books in advance - a colourful cross-section of current youth literature. They included more serious titles such as "Dark Night" by Kirsten Boie, but also fantastic stories such as "Elfenkrone" or "Tribute of Panem L - The Day Breaks". There was plenty of laughter, empathy and, above all, listening. After each reading, there was a discussion round where people could share their opinions and thoughts about the book.
Many books were presented in this way - some already well-known, others real insider tips. The children showed a lot of courage and joy when reading aloud, and the friendly atmosphere ensured that everyone felt at ease. After about an hour, there was a break. Over snacks and drinks, the children were able to chat, talk about books and discover new stories. The reading karaoke show was a special experience. In the end, all the children were delighted - and would like to see this wonderful idea continued soon.
