Hello, my name is Anton Zeiser-Radtke and I am in class 10D3 in Salem. As for every tenth grader, the work placement came quickly for us too. When the time came, I found myself in Los Angeles, California, in the United States. There, as an intern, I was able to become familiar with the Silverlakes company.
Silverlakes is a complex of 24 football fields where football, rugby, lacrosse and much more can be played. It also hosts many big events and concerts. The sports fields are busy every weekend because many football clubs meet there. The players have the opportunity to prove their skills in order to getgain scholarships for colleges. Due to the high university fees, this is often necessary in America. Through Silverlakes, a total of 12,000 direct and 12,000 indirect scholarships have already been awarded.
But back to my internship. So it was off to the USA for me, a country over 9,000 kilometres away from my home. A country where a different language is spoken. But I settled in quickly and I enjoyed it there very much. During my internship, my day started at 8:00 in the morning and ended at 14:30. What did I do there? I was mainly working in the agricultural sector. So I took care of the lawns and helped with maintenance, which was often very exhausting in the heat. One of my tasks was to change the sprinkler heads. I dug them out, fixed them, replaced them and dug them back in so that the lawn got the perfect care required.
Overall, the internship was a wonderful experience and I would do it again and again. I am grateful that Salem gives us the opportunity to do a three-week internship.
