Music and Dance – all for a good cause
by Ariane Hellenbach, Abi 2, Music Service Captain
The College Music Service resumed the long-standing tradition of hosting a charity event, this time to support those affected by the war in Ukraine. The 2,000 Euros collected were donated to the charity Plast.

After weeks of rehearsals by students and teachers of both Schule Schloss Salem and Salem Kolleg, as well as a former student of Schule Schloss Salem, and intensive planning by the Music Service, the long-awaited charity event in aid of Plast Ukrainian Scout Association in Germany e.V. took place on Saturday, March 4, 2023.

At the beginning, the audience enjoyed a wide variety of high-quality pieces of music by different composers, which were performed by the students and teachers. In addition, the audience was treated to a Ukrainian folk song, which was performed in a very touching way by Uljana Kovalschuk and our Ukrainian piano teacher Mrs. Orlova.

During the interval, the audience had the opportunity to enjoy delicious ‘sochniki’ and ‘rogaliki’. These Ukrainian pastries, which six students had prepared together with two Ukrainian women, also brought in numerous financial donations. Meanwhile, the chairperson from the Ukrainian scout association Plast, which supports Ukraine with financial, medical and moral aid, answered questions about her extraordinary commitment.

After the interval, a professional dance ensemble under the direction of choreographer Davina Wölfle-Obitz performed. These international dancers performed a theatrical dance entitled ‘When is home?’ much to the delight of the large audience.

The entire music service is happy about the successful event and the donations totaling 2,000 Euros, which will be used for Plast's humanitarian aid in Ukraine.
