Magic Reading Nights: A Magical Evening at the Library
by Ira, 8D2 & Fabine Luz, Librarian
The library organized a 'Magic Night' for Years 5 and 6, where over 20 children enjoyed a magical show and exciting book recommendations.

Magic show with a wow factor

On April 30, 2024, the library organised a “Magic Night” for the Rentamt or grades 5 & 6. Admission was free with prior registration. Over 20 children came. Elizabeth and I, Ira, were there for part of it. We are members of the Library Club and helped a bit that evening. We gave everyone a name badge and then got to know each other. At 7.15 pm, we left the library and went upstairs. A magician was waiting for us with a wonderful magic show. After everyone had taken their seats, he started. His show was very entertaining, and most of the time, no one could understand the tricks. All the guests were enthusiastic and enjoyed the show. At the end, he conjured up a whole picture of himself from a cut-up notepad and signed copies for everyone who wanted one. After the show, there was a short break with a snack and a drink. We were able to chat with the magician as well. Then we all sat down again, and Mrs. Luz, one of the two librarians, introduced us to different books: in German and in English. Unfortunately, Elizabeth and I had to leave before the evening continued.

Magic books and creative stations

After a fantastic performance by Stuttgart magician Chris Magic, with lots of mysterious and funny tricks, I introduced the students to new books that the library had bought, especially for Magic Night. These included well-known series such as “To all the boys I've loved before”, “The Inheritance Games” and “Animox”, as well as lesser-known books such as “White Tears”. After the book recommendations, I read from one of my absolute favourite series, “Lucifer Junior”, and got a lot of laughs.

We then went back down to the library, where some free-choice stations were waiting for the students. They could choose to do jigsaw puzzles, board games, two magic puzzles, or upcycling. The upcycling project consisted of folding and designing gift bags from old, discarded books. Of course, they could also just find a cozy corner to read in.

The students left the library around 10 pm, happily loaded with new books to read and many self-made goody bags.

There will be two more reading nights next term. We are looking forward to them.
