To mark the 25th anniversary of our participation in the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award, we are showing what makes the programme in Salem so special - with a new film about our Gold Expedition in the Black Forest Nature Park.
As the Duke programme's largest and flagship school in Germany, we offer the Bronze, Silver and Gold levels - and have been doing so for a quarter of a century. The film impressively documents how young people master challenges together, take on responsibility and intensively experience nature.
The programme was founded in 1956 by Kurt Hahn and HRH Prince Philipp, who was himself a pupil at Salem from 1933 to 1935. Since his death in 2021, his son HRH Prince Edward has continued the programme as Duke of Edinburgh. Today, it is one of the most renowned programmes for young people in the world.
New this year: Salem Kolleg is also taking part. It is now the only orientation year in the German-speaking world to offer the silver level of the Duke Award - ideally complemented by Outdoor Education and Studium Generale.
