A Festive End to the Year for the Salem Community

by Julia Rieß, Öffentlichkeitsarbeit
The final day of term before the Christmas holidays at Salem was very much centred on coming together. Parents, students and supporters of the school gathered to bring the year to a close as a community.

The Friday before Christmas is far more than simply the start of the holidays at Schule Schloss Salem. It is a firmly established occasion for reunion and shared reflection. The programme began with a reception hosted by the Headmaster in the Prälatur of the Schloss Salem. Henrik Fass and Thomas Obitz welcomed the school’s benefactors and invited them to a joint visit of the Anselm Kiefer exhibition. Guided by the theme “Improvisation, Courage and Trust”, Henrik Fass, scholarship holder Cosima, and head pupils Carolina and Max spoke about their personal experiences and perspectives. The reception was accompanied musically by student Luisa on the flute.

Afterwards, the Zehntscheuer filled to capacity. The Advent concert, conducted by Tim Evers, delighted the audience with an impressive musical programme and created a distinctly festive atmosphere. The parents’ Christmas dinner that followed was equally well attended. The evening was hosted by students Hannah and Johann, while the catering team led by Uwe Anhorn provided a culinary highlight with dishes such as Chioggia Beete with Fresh Goat’s Cheese, Roasted Pine Nuts and Fruit Bread, Salem venison ragout, and Gingerbread Panna Cotta.

A particular highlight was the fundraising initiative in support of the swimming pool refurbishment. More than €20,000 was raised — a contribution that especially delighted the students who presented the project and are now looking forward with great anticipation to the modernised pool.
