With Heart, Commitment and 1,700 Laps
by Sophie H., ABI 2
A charity run that began as a fleeting idea became a success for a good cause - and a personal borderline experience with a great learning effect.

"You have the greatest success with the things you do seriously" - a saying from a fortune biscuit that became reality for me when I took over the organisation of our charity run. Originally, it was just an idea that we talked about with Landheim Ammersee and Birklehof am Ammersee. But nothing came of the idea - until I decided to take it into my own hands.

I started planning together with my classmates Marie and Pénelope. We wanted to do more than just run - we wanted to make a difference. It wasn't always easy to get there: too much interference from outside, increasing pressure, responsibility that fell on me. But that's exactly what spurred me on to keep going. I got up early, wrote emails before school - and I was happy to do it because I knew what I was doing it for: for Médecins Sans Frontières.

On the day of the race, it became clear what we had achieved together: over 1,700 laps, committed runners of all ages, a great atmosphere, mutual respect - and an impressive team spirit between the boarding schools. The commitment of the youngest children and the courage of those who ran a half marathon were particularly moving.

In the end, the charity run was a complete success - in human, organisational and financial terms. We even reached the donation target in advance. The response was overwhelming - and showed me what is possible when you believe in an idea. I'll soon be graduating from Schule Schloss Salem and leaving - but I know that I'm leaving something behind that will stay.
