A Sporting Highlight to Mark The End of The School Year

by Jakob K., ABI 1, Sportsprecher Salem International College
At the traditional evening sports day, the school community competed in football, basketball and volleyball – displaying plenty of team spirit and fair play.

On 7 July, the sports field at the Salem site once again became the focal point of campus life. At the traditional Abendsportfest, all students competed against one another in various team sports. For many years, the Abendsportfest has been one of the established traditions at Schule Schloss Salem and brings the entire school community together year after year.

In the hockey, football, basketball and volleyball events, mixed-year teams – each identified by different T-shirt colours – battled it out for overall victory. The competitions for girls and boys were held separately and were organised and run by students in Year 11. Together with the supervising teachers, they ensured that everything ran smoothly and fairly.
As is the case every year, the students threw themselves into the competitions with great enthusiasm. Things often got heated on the pitch, yet fairness, respect and team spirit remained paramount at all times. A special feature of the Abendsportfest is that all year groups take part. Care is taken to ensure that even the younger students get sufficient playing time and can actively contribute to their team’s success.

In the end, the Turquoise team were the winners in the girls’ competition, whilst the Blue team secured overall victory in the boys’ competition. The Abendsportfest demonstrated once again that sporting ambition and team spirit go hand in hand at Schule Schloss Salem, and why this evening is one of the highlights of the school year every year.
