World Class

The Bridge to the Gymnasium

A new country, a new language – and at the same time the challenge of succeeding in a demanding grammar school environment, the Gymnasium.

With World Class, Schule Schloss Salem offers a one-year intensive programme for international students, specifically designed to prepare them for entry into mainstream classes – linguistically, academically and personally.

Arrive. Understand. Take Part.

World Class is more than a language course. It is a structured transition into the German education system, embedded in the daily life of a boarding school.

From the outset, students do not simply learn German; they become part of the school community: in lessons, in sport, in extracurricular activities and in everyday life together.

The Concept

The programme comprises 34 lessons per week and combines intensive German tuition with subject integration:

  • German as a Foreign Language (DaF)
Intensive teaching alongside language-sensitive learning provision
  • Subject Teaching
Gradual integration into subjects such as Mathematics, English and Biology
  • Shared Activities
Sport, choir, school events and boarding-house life

This creates a learning environment in which language is not only taught but lived every day.

Individual Support

Every educational journey is different. That is why individual development is at the heart of the programme:

  • Entry possible from language level A1
  • A basic knowledge of English should already be in place
  • Target: B1 level as a foundation for mainstream schooling
  • Potential assessment to evaluate suitability for Gymnasium
  • Flexible placement into Years 5, 6 or 7

We do not focus solely on previous academic performance, but on each student’s evident potential.

Living and Learning at Boarding School

Students live at the boarding school and, wherever appropriate, take part in the full life of the school and community.

This means:

  • Continuous language practice in everyday life
  • Social integration
  • Personal development within a supportive and protected environment
The Goal

After one year, students move into mainstream classes.

They bring with them:

  • The language skills required
  • Academic readiness for the next stage
  • Confidence in everyday school life
  • And the experience of being part of the community

World Class Means

  • Learning and using a language
  • Developing potential
  • Taking responsibility
  • Truly settling into a new environment
