The Spetzgarter Abendbrot has a long-standing tradition. Salem International College invites experts from politics and business to give a talk on current topics and discuss them with the students. In November, Rüdiger von Fritsch, one of the most sought-after experts on German foreign policy at the moment, was our guest, revealing new details of our world order to 150 students and teachers. He explained his view of the war in Ukraine. As a man who met Vladimir Putin in person during negotiations, he was able to tell us about his impressions and analyse Putin's motives. For Rüdiger von Fritsch, it is clear that the war in Ukraine will go on for a long time. An important prerequisite for success would be that support from the USA and Europe does not wane.
Unfortunately, another war has been added to this one. Not everyone present that evening was aware of what the war in Ukraine and the conflict in the Middle East have in common. Rüdiger von Fritsch explained the political context. He emphasized that the war in Ukraine and the conflict in the Middle East point to a new multipolar world order in which alliances are becoming increasingly important in order to remain capable of acting. The EU has enormous potential to take on a dominant role in global politics. The lecture was followed by a lively question and answer session, after which Rüdiger von Fritsch was virtually besieged by the students. The evening's multifaceted impressions and information certainly caused some of them to change their way of thinking.
