Small but nice: the city of Colmar and our student exchange
by Minou Wahsner 7D1, Emily Ivell 7D2
The French class of grade 7 spent an eventful week in Colmar in Alsace as part of the student exchange program.

On Monday, May 8, 2023, the French class took the train to Alsace, more precisely, to Colmar. After a four-hour train ride, they met their exchange partners from the school "Institut de l'Assomption" for the first time and went home with them to their host families. Together they undertook various activities, such as bowling or laser tag. Of course, one or the other communicative difficulty could not be avoided.

The next day, the Salem students were given a tour of the "Institut de l'Assomption" and played a few integration games with the French students. In the afternoon, before being warmly welcomed at the town hall, the class took a guided tour of Colmar on the "petit train". The students also spent Wednesday at the "Institut de l'Assomption". They attended classes together with their exchange partners and got an insight into the French school system.

The penultimate day the students used for an excursion to Strasbourg. There they first visited an impressive science museum. At noon, the French and German classes had lunch together. The restaurant was called "Flams" and, as the name suggests, they had tarte flambée. After this delicious meal, the students walked around the city, which they then explored by boat.

On Friday, the students said goodbye to their host families early and drove back to Salem. Despite the small language difficulties at the beginning, it was a great and educational experience for all participants.
