Many had already had a long, exhausting day with parent meetings, loading the cars and reunions, so the anticipation and appetite for a delicious and entertaining dinner was all the greater. The lovingly decorated and laid tables were an invitation to sit down, and everyone quickly found a seat surrounded by new acquaintances. Just as quickly, the room was filled with lively conversations and pleasant chats, which sometimes gave us hosts a challenge when it came to making ourselves heard.
After a brief welcome from our Headmaster Henrik Fass, we hosts also welcomed the guests and had the task of explaining our everyday eating routine with all its rules. The election of the head of the table, an important position during the course of the dinner, caused a great deal of enthusiasm and laughter. The parents were allowed to feel just like Salem pupils and follow the same rules that we adhere to in everyday life at boarding school. And although there are rules, they created an extremely cheerful atmosphere on the evening of the dinner. The school kitchen outdid itself with a delicious 3-course menu. A yellow curry soup with scampi was followed by a second course of veal with broccoli and tomato spaetzle. The gingerbread mousse as the grand finale was very well received, it was good that the kitchen had planned more than one dessert per person!
Between courses, pupils performed musical pieces. A representative of the Aldebaran research project was invited as a surprise guest, who, together with our teacher Milan Bijani and pupils, presented the project and the associated fundraising campaign. Thanks to the great willingness of parents to donate to the project, many pupils from Salem will be able to enjoy the impressive experience on the Aldebaran research vessel in the future. After a final song of Silent Night and a big round of applause for the organizers and caretakers, the kitchen and the hosts, the guests made their way home.
