Evening Sports Festival 2024 - there is no such thing as bad weather!
by Stefanie Holzwarth, Sports Coordinator Schloss Salem
Salemer prove their resilience and defy the rain. This year's whole-school sporting event will be remembered by all.

On Friday, 12 July 2024, as always at the end of the school year, around 400 pupils from grades 5-11 gathered in their colourful T-shirts on the Salem sports field in the late afternoon and waited for the starting signal for the preliminary round matches in volleyball, football, basketball, and hockey. After a brief welcome from the Head Teacher Henrik Fass, the games got underway. Unfortunately, after the first three minutes of the second game, it was over again as a heavy thunderstorm approached. In the days leading up to the evening sports festival and on the morning of the same day, management and sports teachers had already discussed and consulted with each other and then decided to go ahead with the event based on the positive forecast. The day was dry and quite nice, everything was set up and prepared, but then the rain came. The entire school community was quickly evacuated to the cloisters and the Torkel, where dinner was served. Fortunately, after just over half an hour, it was possible to continue. The playing times were shortened, and the pupils played with motivation and commitment as if the sun was shining. Everyone involved had a lot of fun, with many staff members present cheering on the pupils or themselves playing volleyball or football in small groups on the edge of the pitches. Shortly before 9pm, the winners of each sport were announced to great cheers and finally the trophies were presented to the overall winners by the respective Heads of Boarding.
