Blind trust at the office bearers' weekend
by Greta Denkhaus, 10D2
Our office bearers learned about important parts of their work at Wildenstein Castle.

One weekend in the second term, we went on the office bearers' trip to Wildenstein Castle. There were students of all ages from grades 5 to 10. Some were shy and homesick at the start. By the end, however, they were all well integrated, and you would have thought that they had known each other for a long time.

Among other things, we collected ideas to improve our boarding life and at school. Through group work and mind maps, many suggestions came together, which we are now all trying to implement as best we can.

But in order to do this, we also had to learn that our ideas have to be accepted and represented by our community, because we cannot implement them over the heads of our fellow students, but have to involve them too. We also discussed this in detail among ourselves and consulted with each other.

In order to improve the team spirit of our different groups of office bearers, we learned to rely on each other and to work together in a group instead of trying to do things on our own, through role-play situations. Even though there were a few problems at the beginning with some games, e.g. running blind through the forest without communicating, we ended had a lot of fun and made new friendships.

Throughout the weekend, we all stepped out of our comfort zones and also ventured into different situations we would have to face as office bearers with these role plays and came up with new solutions to problems.

To sum it up, the office bearer weekend was a perfect opportunity to find out how we can best serve the community. Our ideas were structured and approaches through which we can best implement them were worked out, so that we can make this school year a good year for everyone.
