Our Youngest in Round Square Adventure Camp
by Emilia Müller, 6D1
Students from the Rentamt traveled to England as part of a Round Square conference and learned how to survive in the wilderness.

At 6:00 a.m. we were all on time in front of the Rentamt. Our backpacks were loaded into the Salem bus and the anticipation was enormous. And then it finally started: we were on the plane to England. We imagined what it would be like to meet complete strangers, although we are all connected in a very special way.

We spent the first day in Notthingham, where we visited many different tourist attractions. Then it was on to the host school. Samworth Church Academy gave us a super friendly welcome. For dinner we had a typical British dish: fish and chips. Afterwards we were divided into different groups in which we talked about all kinds of things. Of course, there were also sports activities. Among them were badminton, basketball and soccer.

The next morning the bus picked us up after breakfast and we started our three-hour drive to the camp. At the camp itself, we learned a lot about outdoor life. If someone would expose me to the wilderness now, I am sure I would manage to survive. We had a lot of fun playing games with our camp leaders or teaching each other new things.

But even the best times pass. Unfortunately, we had to leave and go to the next camp. There we were listened to an extremely exciting lecture by a nice young man. In the evening there was a warm shower for each of us. And it was one of the best showers of my life. Afterwards we had a little party before we parted ways the next morning.

On the way back to the airport we all exchanged stories and talked about how great it was to meet so many new people. After boarding, we sat on the plane with anticipation for Salem. But we rejoiced too soon because our flight was canceled. The next morning we dared to try again and then we finally sat in the plane back to Germany without any delay. Completely exhausted, but filled with happiness and cheerfulness, we dropped into our beds. In the end, it was a wonderful trip that I will always remember.
