To better prepare us Visual Arts students for our Exhibition component, Mr. Devine organised a small exhibition, or Open Studio, where we could showcase all the work we had done so far. The focus of the Open Studio, called ‘The Process Party’ was not only on already completed artworks but the process and experimentation behind these artworks. Each of us students had printouts of a selection of our Process Portfolio slides so visitors could read about everything we had been doing so far.
It was really fun getting to talk about our work to people who were totally unfamiliar with it. We often only talk amongst us Visual Arts students about our work, so we all found this useful practice at explaining our concepts and ideas. It was also nice to see how interested people were in our work and the feedback they gave us was useful and insightful.
There were soft drinks and health snacks on offer as you entered, and you could sign the tablecloth when you entered the open studio. The sign in sheet is now proudly stuck onto the studio entrance to remind us of the nice event we all had.
Thank you to Mr. Devine for organising the event as well as Mr. Parker and Dr. Schummer for being there and helping with the organisation as well. All of Visual Arts students really enjoyed the experience and are very keen to continue our work and create new and exciting artworks.
