Living at Lake of Constance.
Working in a Holiday Region.

Salem is an enterprise with a long tradition. Founded in 1920 it now employs over 280 staff members, half of whom are teachers; the other half is employed in the areas of housekeeping, technical services and administration. Educational work with the students is seen as a joint task for everyone - whether teacher, cook or housekeeper.

With its attractive location in the four-country district at Lake Constance and its internationality Salem is a uniquely attractive place of work for all those who are committed to their work and enjoy being involved with young people.

What awaits a teacher at Schule Schloss Salem?

Salem is an international living and learning community resting on a foundation of  cosmopolitan, holistic education. As a general rule we employ teachers who are qualified to teach at gymnasium level; however at Salem other professionals, such as the head housekeeper, librarian and nurse are members of the educational staff. In addition Salem hires teaching assistants for a half-year period who wish to gather experience in a school and boarding school environment.

Normally, teachers commence their employment as internal staff members, looking after a wing at the boarding school and holding a part-time teaching post. Their boarding school accommodation is rented at favorable conditions and moving expenses are reimbursed. Our staff members have a wide range of possibilities for structuring teaching and boarding-school life and actively contributing to the school's development. Furthermore, professional personnel management, evaluation and possibilities for advanced training present many opportunities for each individual's personal development.

Teaching staff at Salem have the possibility to become German civil servants. Taking a leave of absence from civil service is  common practice. Salaries are determined in accordance with the tariff system for public service, the TV-L , and supplemented by special allowances for boarding school duties.
