Living at Lake Constance.
Working in a Holiday Region.

Schule Schloss Salem has a long tradition. Founded in 1920 it now employs over 280 staff members, half of whom are teachers; the other half employed in the areas of housekeeping, technical services and administration. As a state-recognised grammar school for years 5 - 12, we offer places for up to 600 boarding students wishing to study for either the Abitur or International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma.

With its attractive location in the four-country district of Lake Constance, as well as its internationality, Salem is a uniquely attractive place of work for all those committed to their work and who enjoy being involved with young people.

What awaits a teacher at Schule Schloss Salem?

Salem is an international living and learning community based on a foundation of  cosmopolitan, holistic education. As a general rule we employ teachers who are qualified to teach at gymnasium (grammar school) level. However, at Salem other professionals, such as the head housekeeper, librarian and nurse are members of the educational staff. In addition, Salem employs teaching assistants who wish to gather valuable experience in a school and boarding school environment.

Teachers usually commence their employment as internal staff members, looking after a wing in the boarding school and holding a part-time teaching post. Boarding school accommodation is rented at a favorable rate and relocation expenses are reimbursed. Our staff members have a wide range of possibilities for structuring teaching and boarding-school life and actively contributing to the school's development. Furthermore, professional personnel management, evaluation and possibilities for advanced training present many opportunities for each individual's personal development.

Teaching staff at Salem, given certain conditions, may have the possibility to become German civil servants. Taking a leave of absence (sabbatical) from civil service is  common practice. Salaries are determined in accordance with the German tariff system for public service, which is supplemented by special allowances for boarding school duties.
