The sports ground at Salem is a central place for teaching and learning different sports during and outside school time, for holding tournaments, training units and periods for physical exercise. At the moment it has a grass pitch, two tennis courts, two beach volleyball courts and a basket ball court with a tartan-covered surface. In order to be able to continue teaching and encouraging the main Salem sports, i.e. hockey and basketball, in the proper way, the entire sports ground needs to be renewed. The estimated cost lies at approx. Euro 2 m.
The School Management together with the school's Fundraising Department have fulfilled the long-cherished wish of Salem's students to have their own fitness room at the Middle School.
After active support in the form of fitness apparatus and financial contributions provided by a foundation, as well as by the parents of some of Salem's students, and by some of the patrons, the Förderverein (association of friends and sponsors) at Schule Schloss Salem took over the remaining sum in order to press ahead with a rapid realisation of the project.
As a result, the new fitness room at the Middle School could be opened in April - the students find their new fitness room really super, make very good use of the offer and are training very hard.
The following video shows why the students were longing to have their own fitness room.
At the Salem Services and workgroups the children learn how to assume responsibility for others as well as the basic structures of democratic behaviour. For many of the projects purchases are necessary that are not covered by the school budget. These require financial support, i.e. larger and also smaller amounts.
