The timetable of the weekend differs from the weekdays, offering a change of pace and some recreational opportunities for the children. The Learning Groups and Practical Groups do not take place. Instead, the whole group enjoys two day trips in the local area, accompanied by the Summer Camp staff.
On Saturday, after breakfast, a bus takes the children to the popular Affenberg (a barbary ape sanctuary) in nearby Salem. Here free running apes are the special attraction and the children are able to feed them! There are also many other birds and animals in the same location that can be observed by the children.
After a snack break, the whole group walks together to Schloss Salem, home to our middle school campus. Here they enjoy a guided tour, take part in various sports events and have their lunch. If the weather is good, the children are then driven to Lake Constance to have a fun afternoon enjoying swimming and playing in the water and on the shore. Dinner is served on return to Hohenfels , followed by a film evening to round off an enjoyable day.
On Sunday, Burg Hohenfels and its surrounding environment are the focus of the programme. After a lie-in and brunch, each boarding wing forms a group and competes against the others in a varied rally within the castle grounds and surrounding area. This gives the children the opportunity to explore a little further than previously with their new friends.
The finale to this fun-filled, relaxing weekend is a barbeque evening enjoyed by all children and staff on the ‘Hüttenplatz’ next to the sports ground, a short walk from the castle itself.
