In the mornings between 8.30 a.m. and 10.30 a.m. eight academic courses are offered. Four of these Learning Groups are language based: German, German as a Foreign Language for complete beginners, German as a Foreign Language for intermediate students and Basic English. Here the children are taught self-organisation skills and how to become more responsible for their own learning. Through enjoyable, fun lessons with exciting teaching methods the children pick up learning tips and ways to, for example, improve their concentration. Through these methods we aim to strengthen the children’s enthusiasm for their chosen subject.
Alternatively, children can choose an academic course that is project based. In the Creative Writing Workshop a local, well known author of children’s literature encourages the participants to become fully involved in the process of writing and creating a book. As part of the Applied Mathematics course, the children are given the opportunity to explore mathematical rules and laws in a practical and interesting way. At the ‘Mini Uni’, subject experts give exciting and informative lectures and offer practical hands-on opportunities to explore and develop learning concepts and knowledge. English Conversation is a course designed for those who already have a good base and wish to improve their fluency in English.
After this two hour academic programme there is a snack break. Then, before lunch, the theory classes of the ‘Practical Groups’ take place in order to prepare the children for their chosen afternoon activity and to give them the appropriate and necessary theoretical knowledge required.
