This is a course designed for children who enjoy reading and writing stories and who at the same time want to improve their grammar, spelling and punctuation. Under the competent guidance of one of our Hohenfels’ German teachers they can develop their own ideas in class discussions and on paper. At the same time they widen their vocabulary, improve their writing style and experience a creative and practicallly orientated way of dealing with the German language.
German as a Foreign Language for complete beginners
This is a course designed for those who wish to start learning the German language. As well as the normal content of such a course; introducing themselves, simple conversations skills, short written texts, there is an emphasis on the necessary vocabulary for life in a boarding school.
German as a Foreign Language for intermediate students
This course is designed for those who wish to improve their German, previously learnt at home or in school. Through their own chosen topics, the children work in groups on research and therefore improve both their spoken and written fluency. Individually, the children are encouraged to improve their grammar and listening comprehension skills. They also write short articles for the Summer Camp Hohenfels Magazine, given to all children on departure day.
This course is designed for non-native speakers of English who are particularly keen to improve and who have already had at least one year of English lessons. Here the focus is on improving their speaking skills and broadening their vocabulary. For example they will interview native English speakers and write up their report for the magazine. At the same time they will be encouraged to work on grammar and listening comprehension skills.
In the creative writing workshop a local, well known author of children’s literature encourages the participants to become fully involved in the process of writing and creating a book. This course is designed for children who particularly enjoy inventing their own stories.
Here the children are given the opportunity to explore mathematical rules and laws in a practical and interesting way. Children who are keen to investigate their own mathematical ideas and who have a genuine curiosity for this subject will benefit greatly from such a learning experience.
As young university students, the children get to know interesting phenomena from the natural sciences and technical fields. Our subject experts give exciting and informative lectures and offer practical hands-on opportunities to explore and develop learning concepts and knowledge. The areas of teaching include astronomy, chemistry, Greek mythology and medieval architecture.
This is a course designed for those who have a good base of both spoken and written English and who wish to improve their fluency. Communication techniques and the development of conversation are at the heart of this course. Themes of particular interest to this particular group of children will be explored and they will prepare and present their work to others.
