After a hearty and tasty lunch the afternoons are fully dedicated to the Practical Groups. Each afternoon, through until the evening meal, the children are out with their respective group and have the opportunity to fully develop their skills in this one chosen area for the whole two weeks. The groups are previously chosen on the application form.
The choices are:
The above groups are closely linked to Hohenfels and the surrounding environment. They also form part of every day life in the boarding school throughout the academic year. The group leaders are trained exerts in their field and are supported by enthusiastic assistants. The size of each group varies from 8 – 14 children depending on interest.
During the afternoon session, there is a break for snacks and refreshments. At the end of the session, all groups return to Hohenfels and the children have time to change and shower as necessary prior to dinner, which is eaten together in the school dining hall.
After dinner the children enjoy some free time when a variety of leisure and sporting activities are offered to cater for all taste. These change on a daily basis depending on the weather, interest of the children etc. Activities may include football, hockey, story-time and different handicrafts. Time is also available here for writing letters and e-mails home.
At 8.00 p.m. children must return to their boarding house and prepare for bedtime. At 8.30 p.m. ‘silentium’ begins, the children must be in their rooms and may read or play quietly. After a long and full day all the children are tired and at 9.00 p.m. the lights are turned off and the mentor says good night.
