Our Summer Camp gives children between the ages of 9 and 12 the chance to gain an initial impression of boarding school life. For the participation in Salem Summer Camp a basic command of German is essential. The camp takes place at Hohenfels, the medieval castle that houses Schule Schloss Salem’s lower school (Years 5 – 7).
In the mornings, children participate in their one chosen academic course. Four are language based: German, German as a Foreign Language for complete beginners, German as a Foreign Language for intermediate students and Basic English. The other four courses are more project based. Here the children can choose from either Creative Writing, Applied Mathematics, ‘Mini-Uni’ or English Conversation. These learning groups are followed by the Practical Groups. In the afternoons all the children are out and about. They sign up for one two week course chosen from: Sailing, Forest, Circus, History, Arts and Creativity or On Stage.
During the middle weekend, all participants explore the surroundings of both Hohenfels and Lake Constance, just a short distance away. On the final Friday parents are invited to come to Hohenfels in the afternoon to visit their children in their choosen academic course and their practical group. At the Summer Camp Hohenfels final performance on Saturday morning the children of the Circus and On Stage groups show off their newly acquired skills.
The language of Summer Camp Hohenfels is German. Children who would like to come to us as an absolut beginner, that means, who do not speak any German at all, in order to get a feel for the German language, are cordially invited. The academic course "German as a Foreign Language" in the morning is compulsory for them. However, we recommend that the child has already made first experiences with the German language and has an adequate basis. These children should, however, have a good command of the English language to get along in every day life and to communicate with our staff members.

Due to a exceptionally high demand for places, new applicants to each of our summer schools have priority. Students who wish to attend for a second time will initially be placed on a waiting list.
Students registering for a different summer school to the one previously attended will be treated as new applicants.
