What do the German and the English speaking Classes have in common?
All classes in one year are instructed by the same team of teachers. Therefore both systems follow a similar annual schedule. Projects, theme days and study trips are organised together and offered in both languages. We are aiming at a maximum of integration between classes and languages.
Both systems are taught according to the Curriculum of the state of Baden-Württemberg in Germany. They follow the same orders and regulations for marking and failure of class and offer the same scheme of languages. Therefore transfer to a higher class is acknowledged by all German grammar schools (Gymnasien). The same holds true for the graduation from Middle School after year 10 (the so-called “Mittlere Reife”). It is valid no matter whether the year has been accomplished in the German or the English system and is recognised in many foreign countries, too. No matter, whether a student from the International Classes decides to continue with the IB system or return to the German system and strive for the German Abitur having successfully completed the previous year he may do what he wants to.
What are the differences between the German and the English speaking Classes?
The main difference – obviously – is the language of instruction. The International Classes are taught in English, the German ones only in German. However a substantial knowledge and a good command of foreign languages is emphasized in the German speaking classes, too. On the other hand we make sure that all students in the International Classes learn German (if they are not fluent anyway) and that they can accomplish the educational objectives, which they have already reached in English, in German as well. Whereas the use of English is used as a preparation for the IB and studying abroad we nonetheless make sure that German students maintain their native tongue at a high level.
In the International Classes we have integrated some elements, which especially prepare for the IB.
