Parents’ Council in Times of the Coronavirus Pandemic
by Caroline Stockhausen and Mariella Röhm-Kottmann, Parent's Council
Due to restrictions on in-person gatherings, the Parents’ Council of Schule Schloss Salem gets together digitally and gathers suggestions from other parents regarding digitalisation within the school.

Even in these difficult times, our council, a group of twelve committed parents, communicates on a regular basis with the school’s management and other representatives of Schule Schloss Salem. We see ourselves as a “sounding board” both in regard to what parents expect of the school, and to the expectations that the school has of its students and their parents. Due to the need for social distancing, these dialogues take place with the council’s chairperson and her deputy, after they have gathered ideas from the rest of the council members, or in the form of a virtual meeting using Microsoft Teams.

Along with general information from the school’s directors, the academic heads, and the heads of boarding school, a particular focus in recent months has been an exchange of ideas about the ways the school is dealing with the current coronavirus pandemic. The parents’ council passed along detailed information about the measures being taken by the school, answered specific questions from parents and discussed various suggestions and ideas.

In recent years, the school has made considerable progress in digitalisation and has facilitated a professional implementation of online instruction. In this connection, the council has formed a sub-committee to address further steps in the digitalisation process and also the students’ use of digital media in their leisure time. Interested parents are very cordially invited to share their ideas and thoughts with this committee: elternbeirat@schule-schloss-salem.de.

Because the parents’ council elections which were scheduled for 2020 had to be postponed for one year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, we wish to call your attention to this year’s election. Interested parents are welcome to submit their candidacy.
