The concept of a comprehensive education also includes sport.
In addition to the regular sports lessons, each student at Salem has to take on at least one other sport; the mark at the Upper and Middle School is also taken into account in the mark for sport in the school report.
At Schule Schloss Salem there are numerous school teams that take part in larger matches and competitions on a regular basis. Hockey occupies first place and is the traditional sport at Salem; in addition there are other team sports such as basketball, volleyball, football, badminton and rugby.
Mainly swimming and running have established themselves as sports for the individual, as running and swimming events are characteristic for the school sports life at Salem.
Other types of sport that can be chosen are body-shaping, aerobics, fitness, gymnastics, athletics and rowing. Tennis, fencing, golf, climbing and sailing can be chosen as a so-called 'workgroup' sport.
The Upper School has a fitness room with rowing ergometers and other equipment, as well as a climbing wall, and the Lower School at Burg Hohenfels also has its small climbing wall. The Middle School at Salem Castle is proud of having its own 25-metre long swimming pool.
In addition to the classic sporting disciplines, the school offers a varied program of outdoor activities geared to the respective age groups.
