Hockey is the main school sport at Salem. Kurt Hahn and Prince Max von Baden had already founded the Hockey Club Salem in 1919; it is therefore one year older than the School itself.
Since this time, the sport with the 'bent stick' has been encouraging and promoting coordination, sensitivity and team spirit.
A hockey trainer is employed full-time, which means that all the Salem students have the opportunity to try their hand at learning outdoor and indoor hockey and develop their ability.
In addition to those who play in the School teams, beginners can also learn to play hockey at Salem and improve their skills once a week. Hockey is also taught during the regular sports lessons in School Years 5 to 10. In Year 8 all students have to take a Hockey course for the entire school year.
