This program is specially intended for young people aged 14 to 25 and encourages Kurt Hahn's educational principles, i.e. social commitment, self-realisation, adventure and the development of personal interests. It comprises service, expeditions, talents and fitness, and at the Gold level, a project. It is offered on an independent basis by schools, groups and homes throughout the world.
It is possible to take the badge at three different levels - bronze, silver and gold. It was first offered at Salem in the year 2000, and since this time a very large number of schoolchildren have been awarded their silver badge at the Middle School in Salem or their gold badge at the College, with Schule Schloss Salem thus being the most successful at offering this program in Germany.
Motto and model
"It is the sin of soul to force young people into opinions - indoctrination is of the devil - but it is culpable neglect not to impel young people into experiences". (Kurt Hahn)
Under the motto "Plus est en vous!", the German International Youth Program wants to motivate, guide and support young people in their self-development and acknowledge their achievements.
This program is an all-round, character-building,"do-it-yourself" kit, based on individual challenge. It is not "easy" but functions according to the principle: "The more you give, the more you gain".
