Music also has a very high rating. Orchestras, choirs, jazz and rock bands constantly offer opportunities for playing music as an ensemble - both inside and outside the school walls. Each child is able to take extra lessons for learning to play a musical instrument; the teachers then come to the school. The students at Salem are regularly amongst the prizewinners at the regional and national music competition, "Jugend musiziert".
Since 2014 Salem has been cooperating with the ABRSM, the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. The ABRSM is the leading institute world-wide for music examinations and assessments. The ABRSM was founded in 1889 and subsequently it has over 100 years' experience and expertise in imparting knowledge in the field of music and builds on the authority of the four leading academies of music in Britain.
For each level the ABRSM develops uniform, clearly-structured standards for the music lessons and timetables, on the basis of which young musicians are able to prepare for their examinations. They are able to make reference to the certificates they have been awarded in all their applications. For admission to British colleges and at some of the German universities, the number of points that have been reached at higher levels of difficulty is especially taken into account.
Schule Schloss Salem enables all the students taking lessons for a musical instrument and for singing to acquire the ABRSM certificates.
