STUDENT ADMISSIONS AT SCHULE SCHLOSS SALEM

We are pleased that you interested in attending Schule Schloss Salem!
Changing schools – and, in particular, entering a boarding school – is a big step for any family. Therefore we are happy to share our experience and expertise with you and your child in a detailed discussion of this step in order to ensure a happy and successful start to your child's boarding school life. We will gladly consult with you by telephone but also would invite you to visit us in Salem Castle. To arrange a visit please contact our admissions office.

The Path to Admission

Our admissions office can advise you about the applicable school laws and provide information about our admissions process, which consists of the following three steps:

  • Submission of application documentation (see pdf 1)
  • Visit by parents and student to the school, with a personal interview and a tour of the castle grounds, school and boarding school facilities
  • Placement or assessment test

Moreover we also hold regular "Taster Days" in any grade levels. By becoming acquainted with daily life at  Salem and getting a taste of boarding school life, students experience what makes Schule Schloss Salem a unique place to attend school.

Prerequisites for Admission

Students who wish to complete their Abitur at Salem must demonstrate sufficient mastery of the German language, both written and oral, to be able to participate fully in upper secondary school (Gymnasium) classes.
Students seeking to enrol in our international classes (middle school) or the International Baccalaureate Programme must demonstrate sufficient fluency in the English language, both written and oral, through placement tests in several subjects.

All applicants from abroad or from other types of German schools will receive individual feedback based on their assessment test. The results will gladly be discussed at a personal meeting prior to the admissions interview. Students can be admitted at the beginning of each school year into class years 5 to 11. Entry into the 12th  year or after the start of a school year is not advisable, but may be possible in individual cases.
